Apr 13 Family Friendly Block Party on 23rd Street Eads to Fern

Crystal City BID Announces 2nd Annual Crystal Block Block Party Kicks Off Crystal Flight Celebration Crystal City (Arlington, VA) – Spring is around the corner and the Crystal City Business Improvement District (BID) will kick off the season with its 2nd Annual Crystal Block Party on Sunday, April 13, 2008 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on 23rd Street between S. Eads and S. Fern Streets. The block will be filled with live music, family-friendly activities (with mega-moonbounces), and old-fashioned, outdoor street-festival fun. Several 23rd street restaurants will provide promotions to add flavor to the day. The musical lineup, with tunes from the 80’s to retro-American country to classic rock, includes the Reflex, the Folsom Prisoners, and the Wicked Jezabel Band. This year’s community event will also celebrate the landing of Crystal Flight - 50 (fifty) artful Airplane Statues - on the streets of Crystal City. Each plane is sponsored by an area business, creatively painted by talented artists and then placed around the streets of Crystal City by Crystal Flight partner JK Moving & Storage. As part of the celebration, graffiti artist Kevin Irvin will be working on his Airplane canvas live in the middle of the street throughout the day. Sponsored by Arlington Sports, Inc, spectators will be able to watch the artist create and complete his design as the day progresses. “We cannot imagine a better way to land the Crystal Flight planes than with a neighborhood block party. This is Crystal City at its finest – family fun, artists, whimsical creativity, and great music,” said Angela Fox, President and CEO of the Crystal City BID. “This party is only the beginning. We hope to celebrate with visitors all summer long.” The Crystal City BID has partnered with Lowe Enterprises, JK Moving & Storage, Miller & Long, the businesses of 23rd Street to promote and coordinate this free, family-friendly event that is open to all. Complimentary parking for the event has been generously provided by Archstone in the parking lot behind the restaurants at the corner of S. Eads and 22nd Street South.

Ice Skating - Kettler Capitals IcePlex or Pentagon Row

Ice Skating - Kettler Capitals IcePlex or Pentagon Row Ice skating is a great winter time activity. It's fun, it's good exercise, it just feels like winter. You've got two great opportunities for ice skating in Arlington - one indoor and one outdoor. If you're a purist and believe ice skating must be outdoors, try the outdoor rink at Pentagon Row. The upside to Pentagon Row - it's outside which is kind of nice, and it's open for public skate almost all the time. The downside is that it's a little smaller, and, well, it's outside and that can be cold. Rates are $8 per session plus $3 for skate rental. For details and hours visit http://www.pentagonrow.com Or check out the nearly brand new Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Ballston. Tthe upside to the IcePlex - it's an amazing facility, it's indoors, it's bigger, and you might see the CAPs practice. Also, if you're looking for more than just public skate, the IcePlex has pick up hockey, stick and shoot sessions, and a host of classes. The downside - there are not as many public skate sessions. Public skate rates are $7 per session plus $3 for skate rental. For hours and details visit http://www.kettlercapitalsiceplex.com.
